Belçim Bilgin, born in Ankara, started her film career in Paris by Hiner Saleem’s Kilometer Zero which competed in Cannes Film Festival in 2005. After her second film Dol ou la Vallée des Tambours had been released in 2006, Bilgin returned to Turkey and appeared on Tomris Giritlioglu’s projects Hatırla Sevgili (Remember Beloved) and Güz Sancısı (Pains of Autumn) directed by Tomris Giritlioglu. In 2010, she worked with the director Hany Abu-Assad, on the Unutma Beni Istanbul (Do Not Forget Me Istanbul) project consisting of six short films. Her next film Aşk Tesadüfleri Sever (Love Likes Coincidences) was followed by her TV series Keşanlı Ali Destanı (The Legend of Keşanlı Ali). In 2012, she played the leading role in Kurtuluş Son Durak (Last Stop: Kurtuluş) and then acted along with Monica Bellucci and Yılmaz Erdoğan in Bahman Ghobadi’s film Rhino Season, for which she also worked as the executive producer. Belçim Bilgin took the leading role in Rezan Yeşilbaş’s short film Sessiz (Be Deng – Silent) that won the Palme d’Or for Best Short Film at the 65th Cannes Film Festival. Most recently she appeared in Kelebeğin Rüyası (The Butterfly’s Dream), which premiered at the 2nd Los Angeles Turkish Film Festival. Her next film Sadece Sen (Only You), in which she portrays a young blind woman, will be released in the spring.
