Los Angeles Turkish Film Festival (LATFF) team will host Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s Kış Uykusu (Winter Sleep) screening at LACMA on May 5th. Ceylan will join LACMA Film Independent curator Elvis Mitchell to introduce the film. Winter Sleep won Palme d’Or in last year’s Cannes Film Festival.
As an internationally renowned Turkish director, Ceylan has been a recurring winner in Cannes Film Festival. He won the festival’s Best Director Award for Üç Maymun (Three Monkeys) in 2008. His film Bir Zamanlar Anadolu (Once Upon a Time in Anatolia) also won the Grand Jury Prize in Cannes in 2014. Both films were Turkey’s official submissions for the Academy Award for the Best Foreign Film category.
LACMA screening is part of LATTF’s “Turkish Cinema in Retrospective” events. As part of the program, Nuri Bilge Ceylan will present a master class in UCLA on May 7th. There will be other screenings to celebrate the centennial of Turkish cinema throughout May.
